Marina Abramovic
Marina Abramovic is a contemporary artist that has enhanced the world of performance art. The dictionary definition of performance art is “a nontraditional art form often with political or topical themes that typically features a live presentation to an audience of onlookers (as on a street) and draws on such arts as acting, poetry, music, dance, or painting” . Throughout the 70‘s, while performance art was in it’s earliest stages, Abramovic put on many performances that portray the idea of pushing the bounds of the human body. She uses this theme to test the limits of not only herself, but those observing her work through interactions between the artist and the audience. Abramovic has been given the title the “Grandmother of Performance Art” because she has been enhancing and pioneering this genre of art for over 30 years.
